Is there a way to get more by wanting less? Is there a way to stumble upon some great revelation that when acted upon could reveal the Truth about accumulating wealth?
The answers those two questions are what I am going to share with you here. This is a very short, but very powerful read. Thank you for stopping by and subsribing to my blog.
I believe that we can all get more by “wanting” less. In other words, it’s our “wanting” that drives all these things away from us. Consider the experiment using a bowl of water, pepper and dish soap. Play the video if you are not familiar with this:
You could compare our “wanting” to the finger with the dish soap on it. The more we “want” things the more things will seem to flee from us. I also believe the opposite of wanting more, wanting less, will get us more.
Now, consider the following passage in the Bible:
Matthew 6:25-34 "For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, {as to} what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, {as to} what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? So, there you have it. Don’t be worried about “wanting” more. In the end, it will get you less. God takes care of the birds and the lilies. He will surely take care of you if you seek Him first.
"Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and {yet} your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?
"And who of you by being worried can add a {single} hour to his life?
"And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin,
yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.
"But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is {alive} today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, {will He} not much more {clothe} you? You of little faith!
"Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing?'
"For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
"So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Hi, Glad I stopped by to read this post...I have a story relating to this...In the middle of the nite our cats broke a pretty awesome water fountain that we had and instead of being angry I realized that objects break and crumble away. The important things in life can't be broken!
ReplyDelete@lord, i want to be whole: Well said. "The important things if life can't be broken"... hmmm... I smell another post. Thanks for the idea. :-)
ReplyDeleteAmazing, all is very true. Mama took the course online with Oprah and Eckhart Tolle, author of the bestseller "A New Earth" Awakening to your life's purpose. This all resonates with the teachings in those webcasts. If you haven't read the book Mama recommends you do so.
ReplyDeleteI was just talking about something similar today. A friend asked me what was I going to do if my wife lost her job, if I don't recover fom my injury, if on and on. I was reminded of this passage, and I told her I don't worry about things I have no control of. I'll be ok. Thanks for your post that reinforces my belief and trust in God.
ReplyDeleteSo true and good writing. I am thankful today just to have breath in my lungs. The fact that we get to sleep in a comfy bed with a pillow under our head is a miracle. We are rich people and don't know it.
ReplyDeleteexcellent blog!
ReplyDelete@sushi: I have not read that book, but I do know that Oprah's spiritual philosophies tend to be laced with New Age undertones. I would be very careful of anything that she recommends regarding spirituality. I will let you know when I have read the book to give you my opinion on it. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.
ReplyDelete@da old man: Comments like yours are what keep me going. Thank you so much for sharing. Yes, God is awesome and He will provide. I'll be praying for you.
ReplyDelete@paul crutcher: Thank you for the compliment and yes, we truly are rich. A reminder to be thankful for all of the wonderful gifts God has bestowed on us. Thank you, my friend.
ReplyDelete@joe gelb: Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI like your site and I am going to add you to my "blogroll," so that I can remember to follow it. I really like that you are a Christian. I'm a little hesistant because next Thursday's post is the first time that I really am sticking my neck out there as being a Christian. It is a bit evangelistic in a style that isn't normally mine, but when I wrote it I think the Holy Spirit guided me because it just wrote itself. I look at the page and went, oh my!!!
ReplyDelete@sjts: Thank you for those kind words and for adding me to your blogroll, that's a huge deal. I am very interested in reading your post. You are welcome to come back here and leave a link to it here in the comment section.
ReplyDeleteI totally understand, sticking your neck out. This post is what really did it for me. But, as you can see, I have gotten the most comments on this post than any other so far. And, by far, the most rewarding comments. Thank you for your comments.
hello,
ReplyDeleteinteresting views on life here. Wanting less and getting more. Or wanting more and getting less. What is the goal here? Is it your goal to get more or you just want to "want less"? Are you saying that it is good to "want less"? Or you wanna "want less" just to get more? Tricky one.
But I don't like when everyone agrees about something.
Best wishes
@webomatik: Thanks for leaving a comment here. The purpose of the article is to stimulate the readers mind.
ReplyDeleteAs you can see by the comments, each person is moved differently, including yourself. Due to the fact that this isn't really a controversial topic, those who might "disagree" with what I am saying have probably just clicked away without leaving a comment as I have approved every comment entered.
I look at my articles sort of like artwork. The beauty (or in this case the message) is in the eye of the beholder (or reader).
However, if you are looking for my personal opinion on the article, I believe that by "wanting" more, we actually drive those things away from us, hence the video demonstration. So, by "wanting" less, or less often, to make the point a little clearer, we relinquish our selfish "wants" and allow God to give us the desires of our heart by seeking Him first.
Nice post, and a mazing video !!
ReplyDeleteI often ask why can't I just have a normal average life: A normal family, enough money to sustain our basic needs and indulge in a few "luxuries" from time to time... things I consider essential-- But perhaps, there's a lesson in all these. Perhaps what I consider essential may not be as important...
ReplyDeleteThis is quite inspiring. :)
@hisham: Thank you.
ReplyDelete@silent storm: Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts... it's very rewarding to read these comments. I'm encouraged that it was inspiring to you.

ReplyDeleteCathline was right. At the outset she tried to keep still, but that proved impossible as the strong masculine hands made love to her needy bosom.
